  Live-Action Fairytales (6-8)
Saturdays 9 - 10am
Become a part of your favorite fairytales. Embrace your inner storybook hero or villan through theatre games and character development, and let your imagination run wild! Parents are invited to join the fairytale realm on the last day of class

  Detective Drama (9-10)

Whodunit?!?! You decide! Discover what's lurking in the shadows through storytelling, improvisation, theatre games and character development. Find the super-villain and save the world! Parents and friends find out how the story unfolds on the last day of class

  Work it Out (11 - 12)
Saturdays 10 - 11:30am
Create a character based entirely on how you move. Learn how to embody all the physical impressions and quirky characteristics of your character through a range of motion exercises and techniques and capture the audience from the moment you step foot on stage. In the vein of Blue Man Group and the classic physical comedy of Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin, come explore the art of movement and showcase your array of created characters on the last day of class

Explore American classics in this scene study class. Find new motives and objectives and bring these beloved characters back to life. And, as always, refresh and improve your acting skills. Scenes will be presented on the last day of class.

SPRING WORKSHOPS
  Teenprov - Improv Intensive…Back by popular demand (13-17)
Saturday, April 12, 1:00 – 5:00 pm
Leave your inhibitions behind and hop on board for improv! This one-day intensive will introduce students to varying styles of improv, ranging from theatre games to comedy sports. The class will present their skills in a “Comedy Club”-style setting for families and friends.
Instructor – Louis Wells – Founding member of Austin Theatre Sports, MFA Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University.

  But What I Really Want to Do is Direct (12-17)
Saturday, April 19, 1:00 – 5:00 pm
Develop a director’s eye in this introductory directing class. Students will learn how to create dynamic stage pictures, block a scene, and map characters. Participants will have the opportunity to both act and direct in this class.

  Audition Intensive (12-17)
Saturday, April 26, 3:00 – 6:00 pm.
This class will cover all the audition basics, from selecting your monologue to writing a resume. We’ll tell you what to expect in the audition room and how to practice proper audition etiquette. Learn how to find audition opportunities, how to best present yourself, and how to make each audition a positive learning experience.

  Clowning (13 - Adult)
Saturday, May 10, 1:00 – 4:00 pm
Are you interested in learning more about the performing art of clowning? Want to learn some classic bits? This would be the class for you! This class introduces an aspiring clown to differing character types and development, costume selection, and public performance skills. Students will also be introduced to some of the fun things that clowns do, such as walking around and impromptu entertaining, balloon twisting and face painting.

Ready Set Comedy! This fast paced week will introduce students to the varied aspects of comedic performance from skits to slapstick. If you like to tell jokes or act out your own sitcom, this is the week for you.

Step from the wings into the light. Students will learn the basics of musical theatre in this two-week class. Students will develop their skills in dance, vocalization, and musical theatre acting styles. There will be a presentation for families and friends on the final day of the class. Get ready to shine!

This one-week class is a mini-version of the popular George Street Playhouse Young Company. Students work with the faculty in the creation of a story on stage. Older students will be assigned roles that require lines, while our younger actors will focus on movement and ensemble creativity. So get on stage and shine!

2 Week Session: July 21 - August 1, 2008
Get out of the wings, and get on stage! If you’ve always wanted to perform on stage, this is your chance! Students will explore the magic of theatre by creating and performing their own play. Students will develop their acting skills, including ensemble building, movement and voice. This class ends with a performance for family and friends on the mainstage at the George Street Playhouse.

The monologue is the basic tool every actor needs to land that all-important next role. This class will focus on monologue work, as well as audition techniques. Whether you are an amateur or beginning professional, this class will give you the confidence to go into any audition. This class provides a safe, non-competitive environment in which you can explore your natural acting ability. Whether you are an aspiring actor or a business professional, this class brings out the best self-expression you have to offer!

  Improv Workout

Explore the fundamentals of improvisation in this popular program for those with little to no acting or improvisation experience. Back by popular demand - now for adults! Find out what the acting biz is all about. New York Casting Directors Lena Kaminsky and Megan Larche join us to discuss the ins and outs of the business and share invaluable information about the industry. If you choose, you may come prepared for a mock audition; the casting professionals will critique your monologue and give you advice on your overall audition. Audition slots will be chosen through a lottery system, allowing as many students as possible to be seen. This class fills up quickly – please call soon to make a reservation!
Lena Kaminsky is a casting associate at Selective Casting. With Carol Nadell, she has cast many industrial, voiceovers, commercials, and live corporate events, as well as 90 of Zuiderzee, Virgin Red, and Yin and Yang. Selective Casting is always looking for new and diverse talent.

Join us for this one-day intense improv comedy experience! Taught by Louis Wells, this fun, fast-paced class is a great way to learn to think on your feet. Perfect for all skill levels, this class provides a great introduction for beginning actors and an exciting refresher course for advanced actors and drama teachers.

  Triple Threat I (13 - 17)
June 23 - 27
Act, sing, and dance in this week long class for teens of all skill levels. Immerse yourself in all aspects of musical theatre. Students will have classes in dance, vocal performance, voice care and production, musical theatre acting style and technique, history, terminology, and resources. Triple Threat is a valuable skill development course, and a great segue for college preparation. Showcase your skills in a final performance in front of an invited audience; friends and family are welcome to attend.

Take the next step. This class focuses on the process of staging and performance techniques for a musical theatre. Final presentation will be staged version of a condensed musical.

  Teen Young Company (13 - 17)
July 7 - 25, 2008
This class is designed for teens who wish to explore the full range of theatre production. The Teen Young Company will create and perform a full play for family and invited audiences. Students will be involved in every aspect of production including designing, building, performing and running a show. The company will work with professional designers, directors, teachers and stage managers to learn the skills necessary to create their play. Each day will include acting technique and technical training. Each afternoon is spent rehearsing. Students must be committed to attend every class and performance during the three-week period. Limited enrollment.

*Audition required for acting students, interview required for technical theatre students; call for dates and details. 12 year olds may apply; accepted if space is available.

Let’s get to the real meat of acting. Students will work with professional acting teachers to develop skills and techniques, focusing on scene study, improvisation, dramaturgy, movement, voice production and character analysis. These two weeks will include group classes and specially designed individual training for the needs of each student. There will be a presentation of scenes on the final day of class.
