  • 8:30 - 9:00am drop-off

  • Extended care until 6:00pm available (additional $50/week per student.)

Saturdays, 9 - 10am, April 3 - May 22, 2010
How do actors create amazing characters? As they explore the foundations of theatre, students will use their imaginations to create original characters in fantastic situations! Families and friends are invited to the final day of class to see the students’ creation.

  Out of this World (8 - 10)
Saturdays,10 - 11am, April 3 - May 22, 2010
Students will investigate their unique, artistic voices as they develop acting, movement and vocal techniques. This course will focus on the process of bringing a character fully to life—and explore how that character interacts with others. Actors will share their original work on the last day of class with family and friends.

  Own the Stage (11 - 12)
Saturdays,10 - 11:30am, April 3 - May 22, 2010
Students will develop acting and design techniques, as they work together to create an original piece of theatre! Founded in ensemble theatre practice, students will make all of the artistic choices: from developing the script, to designing the sets and costumes. Families and friends are invited to the final day of class to see the students’ creation!

  NEW CLASS: Teen Musical Theatre Technique (13 - 17)
Saturdays, 10 - 11:30am, April 3 - May 22, 2010
How do you build characters through acting, song, and dance? Working with an instructor and professional accompanist, students will explore individually tailored songs, work through the dramatic arcs of musical theatre scenes, and develop emotionally rich characters. By learning a spectrum of musical theatre techniques, students will sharpen their audition and performance skills. A musical staging of students’ work will be given on the final day of class.

  Teen Scene Study (13 - 17)
Saturdays, 11 - 12:30am, April 3 - May 22, 2010
This rigorous course will empower the young actor with techniques to excel as a theatre artist. Students will develop acting, movement and vocal techniques that will focus on the process of bringing a character fully to life. A staging of students’ work will be given on the final day of class.

  Acting 101 (Adult)
Mondays 6:30 - 8:30pm, April 5 - May 24, 2010
As they explore the foundations of theatre, students will develop acting, movement, improv, and vocal techniques that focus on the process of bringing a character fully to life. This exciting course provides imaginative, process-oriented training for actors with or without prior experience.

  Intermediate Acting (Adult)
Mondays 6:30 - 8:30pm, April 5 - May 24, 2010
Focusing on developing a personal, artistic approach as an actor, this rigorous course concentrates on script analysis, characterization, relationship, honesty, and ability to take risks. Using in-depth monologue and scene study work, each actor receives highly individualized instruction. This course is designed for the actor who is ready to begin the next stage of their training and development as artists.

How do songs tell stories? Students will explore the basics of musical theatre by learning how to sing, dance and find the story in each song! Open class presentation: July 2, 2010.

Our professional teaching artists will guide students in the creation and rehearsal of a short, original play with songs and music. This course provides students with an opportunity to apply all that they have learned in previous foundation classes. Performance on George Street Playhouse’s mainstage: July 16, 2010.

  Foundations in Musical Theatre: Rising M Company (9 - 12)
June 28 - July 16, 2010
Rising M Company will explore the foundations of musical theatre through rehearsal and performance. Inspiring confidence each step of the way, our team of professional musical directors and choreographers will develop students’ singing, dancing and acting techniques while rehearsing a popular musical for performance. This course shall challenge the musical theatre veteran and novice alike. Performance on George Street Playhouse’s mainstage: July 16, 2010.

Inspired by a classic hero’s journey, our professional teaching artists will guide Rising Company in the creation and rehearsal of an original, action-packed play. Young M Company shall build on GSP’s mainstage commitment to developing new musicals. Starting with riveting source material, students will work with professional musical directors, composers, and choreographers to develop their singing, dancing and acting skills while creating and rehearsing a new, original musical. This program will culminate in a fully produced performance with lights, sets, costumes and an original score. Young M Company provides the young, musical theatre artist with a unique opportunity to learn through performance. Performance on George Street Playhouse’s mainstage: July 30, 2010.

Inspired by GSP’s mainstage commitment to developing new plays, Young Company shall explore how to develop, design, rehearse and produce a new, original play. Guided by our highly skilled professional directors, playwrights and designers, Young Company will define the artistic choices for this production: from developing the script, to designing the lights, sets and costumes. Young Company provides the young, theatre artist with a unique opportunity to learn through performance. Performance on George Street Playhouse’s mainstage: August 6, 2010.
