George Street Playhouse is dedicated to providing quality, affordable theatre training in a fun, exciting atmosphere.  GSP students of all ages build self-esteem and life-long learning through the arts.  Our theatre classes reflect George Street Playhouse's reputation for quality theatre.  Year after year, we offer students from ages 5 through adulthood the opportunity to encounter the exciting world of theatre arts!

HOLIDAY WORKSHOPS
  Monday: Comedy Holiday Workshop (8-10)
10am - 3pm Monday December 28, 2009
Take a break and have fun. Or give this class as a holiday gift to your household actor. These fun one-day classes are designed for a break during the winter break. Bring a lunch and have fun.

Comedy – Tell a joke, do a funny skit, and really make them laugh. Take a crash course in comedy.


Tuesday: Create a Play – Through improvisation and theater games, young actors will create their own characters and place them in a group storyline. The class culminates in a short play for family and friends.

Wednesday: Theatre Mania – Experience all the different aspects of building a production from crafting props and costumes, to writing skits and blocking, and throw in some movement as well. It will be an action-packed theater day!

SATURDAY MORNING CLASSES
  Imagination Station (5 - 6)
9 - 10am; Saturdays, January 16 – March 6, 2010
Explore your creativity! Students will learn about the different elements in a play, and become those elements. A final performance will utilize the students’ imaginations by having them work as an ensemble to play not only the characters in a story, but the props and setting too!
Cost: $155.00

  Budding Stars (7-8)
9 - 10am; Saturdays, January 16 – March 6, 2010
Explore step-by-step the complete dramatic process from the page to the stage! Assisted by our instructors, students will create and rehearse a short play. In addition to acting, students will learn about costumes, props, and sets, while working together as an ensemble to design and build all the elements of their play! The final class shows off their hard work in a presentation for family and friends.

  Out Of This World: Villains, Heroes and Heroines (9-10)
10 - 11am; Saturdays, January 16 - March 6, 2010
Step into the shoes of your favorite villain, hero or heroine. This fun, fast-paced class focuses on creating original characters based on classic villains, heroes, and heroines. Actors will share favorite character adaptations on the last day with family and friends.

  Own the Stage (11 - 12)
10 - 11:30pm; Saturdays, January 16 - March 6, 2010
Want to learn more about the magic of live theatre? Students will work as an ensemble to create and explore a play using both acting skills and design techniques. Families and friends are invited to the final day of class to see the students’ creation!
Cost: $180.00

  Teen Scene Study (13 - 17)
11 - 12:30pm; Saturdays, January 16 - March 6, 2010
Are you ready for a professional rehearsal process? Learn the tools you need to succeed and challenge yourself as an actor. Learn how to put your techniques to use by working on cold readings and script analysis. A staging of students’ work will be shared on the final day of class.

ADULT WINTER CLASSES
  Acting 101 (Adult)
6:30 - 8:30p; Mondays, January 18 - March 8, 2010
Never taken an acting class before, or want a creative tune-up? This class will break down the barriers of acting and start from the basics. Explore vocal techniques, improvisation, and character development. If you have always wanted to take an acting class but never have, this class will deepen your confidence and celebrate your creativity.

  Intermediate Acting (Adult)
6:30 - 8:30p; Mondays, January 18 - March 8, 2010
This class is designed for the intermediate actor who is ready to begin the next stage in their training. Using in-depth scene study and vocal training, actors will explore how to use objective, moment before, setting, point of view, and emotional fullness to make bold choices on the stage.

SPECIALTY WORKSHOPS
  TeenProv (11-17)
1 - 3pm; Saturday, February 6, 2010
Leave your inhibitions behind and hop on board for improv. This one-day intensive will introduce students to varying styles of improv ranging from theatre games to comedy sports.

  Audition 101 (13 - Adult)
1 - 3pm, February 13, 2010
Learn the ins and outs of auditioning, practice cold readings, and leave with one or two monologues ready for auditions. Explore how script analysis and making bold choices can transform your auditions to catch the eye of a casting director!

  NEW! Musical Movement (13-17)
1 - 4pm; February 20, 2010
Learn the moves of dancing for musical theatre! Work with our instructor and live accompanist to quickly learn a dance combination and add your own stylized touch to the piece. Discover how to move in character and practice how to shape your performance for an audition. For dancers/people who move well.
